Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve spans 120 acres with a 75-acre lake at its center. Permitted activities on the lake include fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. The nature preserve also has 2.3 miles of scenic hiking trails, which connect to an 11.5-mile trail network running through the adjacent 1,153-acre High Mountain Park Preserve. High Mountain Park Preserve is one of the largest areas of protected natural scenery in northern New Jersey. The preserve has a diverse habitat of wetland and woodland areas and more than 380 plant species. Trails ascend to the summit of High Mountain, providing mesmerizing views of New York City. The preserve’s sweeping views also take in a valley, reservoir, and much of northern New Jersey. The Indian Trail Club is a private lakeside country club with tennis and swimming facilities. Franklin Lakes Festival takes place over two days each September with a carnival, pony rides, food trucks, live music, and fun activities for kids, including face painting and bounce houses.
